Avoid the use of tap water for dry skin care. The deposits left behind on the skin can increase the skin's dryness.
Never use hot water on dry skin! Hot water causes the pores to open and the skin to lose even more moisture.
Mineral water is the ideal medium to use for dry skin care. Each morning, apply a spray of mineral water to your face - use a clean spray bottle, such as the type used for plant care. After cleansing, lightly pat dry.
Dry skin needs plenty gentle cleansing, along with regular stimulation with massage. Washing dry skin with soap and water not only removes grime but also the natural oils protecting the skin. Use nondetergent, neutral-pH products to cleanse your skin. Avoid using any commercial soap or hand soap.
Double-cleanse with a cream, leaving a light, thin trace of it on the skin after the second cleansing.
Avoid products that contain beta hydroxy acids (BHA or salicylic acid) as they are skin drying agents that will only aggravate your dry skin.
After you shower, apply a light film of baby oil to all dry skin areas. This helps to replace the skin's natural oils and to lock in moisture.
In the morning, apply a layer of moisturizer over your mineral water spritz. This also helps to lock in moisture and can help the skin remain smooth and supple all day.
Never exfoliate or cleanse your skin with a washcloth or a similar rough surface. This will likely irritate the skin and cause continued dryness.
Try not to touch your face during the day. If you do, touch it gently. Avoid resting your chin or jaw in your hand.
Avoid coming into contact with commercial hand soaps and detergents. These are alkaline and tend to be extremely drying to the skin.
